The Arizona Insurance Exam Moved to PSI: How to Register and What to Expect

Arizona's insurance licensing exam is now administered by PSI Services, not Prometric. PSI took over on September 3, 2025, which means you register through PSI, schedule through PSI, and test at PSI centers or by PSI remote proctoring. What actually changed

The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI) selected PSI as the state's licensing exam and continuing education administrator. Prometric's last testing day was August 24, 2025, followed by a short blackout window, and PSI began testing September 3, 2025.

Three things you need to know:

• Your old account does not transfer. Any login you created with the previous vendor is dead. You start fresh with PSI.
• The exam content is unchanged. The Arizona lines, the outlines, and your study materials are still valid. You are not relearning anything.
• The passing score is still 70% on every line.

So the transition is purely logistical. Get registered with PSI the right way and you avoid the two biggest time-wasters: showing up at the wrong vendor, and getting stuck because your paperwork went to the wrong place.

How to register and schedule with PSI

Follow these steps in order.

1. Finish your prelicensing course first. Arizona requires completion of an approved prelicensing course before you sit for most lines. Have your completion certificate handy.
2. Go to the PSI Arizona insurance portal at test-takers.psiexams.com/anzins, or call PSI at (877) 215-7924.
3. Create a new PSI account. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on the ID you will bring. A mismatch here is the number one reason people get turned away at check-in.
4. Select your line of authority (Life, Health, Life & Health, Property & Casualty, Personal Lines, or a limited line).
5. Choose in-person or remote online proctoring, then pick your date, time, and location.
6. Pay the exam fee. The PSI exam fee is $49 per attempt for the standard lines. You pay this each time you sit, so treat your first attempt like it counts.
7. Save your confirmation. You will get a booking confirmation with your exam appointment and check-in instructions. Read the ID and equipment rules before test day.

What to bring on exam day

PSI requires two forms of valid, unexpired identification. One must be a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport). The name on both must match the name on your PSI registration.

Do not bring notes, a phone, a smartwatch, or study materials into the testing room. PSI provides on-screen scratch functionality or a whiteboard depending on the location. Personal items go in a locker or out of frame.

Arrive at least 30 minutes early for an in-person appointment. For remote testing, log in early to clear the system check before your scheduled start.

Exam format by line

The number of questions and time limit depend on which line you are testing. The passing score is 70% across the board.

Every Arizona exam is multiple choice and delivered on a computer. Some exams include a small number of unscored pretest questions mixed in; they do not count against you, and you cannot tell which ones they are, so answer every question as if it counts.

In-person vs. remote online proctoring

You have two ways to test with PSI, and both are legitimate.

In-person at a PSI testing center. Arizona centers include Phoenix, Tucson, Tempe, Flagstaff, and additional locations across the state. Choose this if your home internet is unreliable or you focus better away from home.

Remote online proctoring from your own home. A live proctor watches through your webcam. You need:

• A private, quiet room with the door closed and no one else present
• A desktop or laptop with a working webcam and microphone
• A strong, stable internet connection
• A clear desk and walls within camera view

Run the PSI system compatibility check before booking remote. If your setup fails the check on exam day, you can lose the appointment and the fee.

What happens after you pass

You get your pass or fail result on screen immediately when you finish, along with a score report. PSI reports your result to the state.

From there:

1. Submit your Arizona license application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) at nipr.com.
2. Complete fingerprinting and the background check if you have not already.
3. Pay the state license fee.

Most Arizona resident producer licenses are issued within a few business days once the application and background check clear.

If you do not pass

You reschedule through PSI and pay the $49 fee again. Arizona does not set a hard cap on attempts and there is no long mandatory wait, so book your retake while the material is still fresh, ideally within a week.
