Frequently asked questions
What is a Texas Personal Lines license?
A Texas Personal Lines insurance license lets you sell homeowners, auto, dwelling fire, renters, and personal umbrella policies to individuals. It does not cover commercial property, business auto, or workers' compensation.
How long is the Texas Personal Lines exam?
The Texas Personal Lines exam is 100 questions with a 2-hour time limit. You need 70% to pass. The exam is administered by Pearson VUE in person or via OnVUE online proctoring.
Is Personal Lines easier than full Property & Casualty?
Yes. Personal Lines covers about half the material of full P&C and skips the commercial sections entirely. Most candidates finish prep in 2 weeks and pass on the first attempt, making it the fastest path to producing in Texas.
Can I upgrade from Personal Lines to full P&C later?
Yes. You can later take the full Texas Property & Casualty exam and add commercial authority through a NIPR endorsement. Many agents start with Personal Lines to start earning, then upgrade to full P&C within their first year.
